Senior Citizens on Computers

Granny Matters

Summary of Granny Matters

New for September 2009 we will be running a project aiming to empower the older generation of our community, giving them more independence in today's modernised society.

We feel that it is ever more important for every individual to understand how to use technology such as computers and the internet to improve their living standards.

We have found that senior citizens withn our area are struggling due to a lack of understanding of how to use these tools to make day to day tasks easier and to improve their personal financial management, and perhaps most importantly, a lot of them have little to no social contact.

Therefore this project's focus will be to run interactive sessions with groups of senior citizens, not only showing them how to use technology within their lives, but providing them with a platform to socialie with each other on a regular basis.

How it Works

This project will be run through a number of workshops focusing on how to use their new computer skills to gain independence. The sessions will be interactive and relaxed. Not only will we show them how to use these different resources but we will show them how they can use them within their own lives.
