Sheffield SIFE Invests 2,000 Cedi into Ghana Communities

Emma Millard - 2nd, April 2009

Sheffield SIFE has made incredible impact on the lives of 127 poor Ghanaian farmers in 4 communities. Sheffield SIFE established community co-operatives and helped the farmers understand core business concepts. Following this training Sheffield SIFE invested 2,000 Ghanian Cedis (around £1,000) into the 4 communities. The farmers will use this micro-finance to improve their yields. The investment will be repaid by the farmers as a group. If one member defaults on the loan then the remaining farmers must cover the debt. It is this strategy which will ensure our projects long term sustainability. We worked with SIFE Sunyani on this project and they are continuing to work with the communities in our absence.
