St Luke's Hospice

St. Luke’s is Sheffield’s only hospice and provides specialist care to its patients. To fund this excellent care, St. Luke’s runs six charity shops around Sheffield.

St Luke's shops, staffed by volunteers, play a vital role in keeping the Hospice's doors open to its 1,500 patients. Sheffield SIFE plans to work with the shops and the volunteers to help increase the profit of the shops.

First, we attempt to understand the business better. This is usually done through staff shadowing. Our team also meets with the businesses management team to learn more about the problems facing the business.

After reviewing the businesses internal and external environment the team put together recommendations which are presented to the management team. The team also considers the potential for investment. If this is appropriate then the evaluation team will present their report to the Sheffield SIFE management team for consideration.

We are continuing to work with the volunteers to help improve the shops and the St Luke's shops profitability.

UnLtd is currently supporting us with this project. UnLtd is a charitable organisation set up by seven leading organisations that promote social entrepreneurship. UnLtd - the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs - wants to support and develop the role of social entrepreneurs as a force for positive change in the United Kingdom (to find out more about please visit UnLtd website). UnLtd have helped us financially, enabling us to set up this project.

This year we plan to expand this project to help even more businesses through our consultancy enterprise. As our resoruces are limited we will be holding a competition for local businesses in Sheffield in order to select the next set of business that we will work with. The winner of the competition will be awarded and will receive our consultancy package and investment of upto £15,000.
