Why Join Sheffield SIFE?

SIFE is great for CV and for your future career whatever you decide to do. You’ll learn key skills which employers will love! Plus, as SIFE is part of an international organization companies from around the world will already know about SIFE and the greatness of students involved. In fact HSBC even has a section on their website specifically for SIFE students (www.hsbc.com/sife).

Last year our graduating members joined companies such as Bank of America, Lloyds TSB, HSBC, Rolls Royce, Exxon Mobil, Price Waterhouse Copper, Thomas Cook and many others on between £25,000-£60,000 (even with the recession)!

It may sound cheesy but it really is amazing to see the difference you have made on someone's life. To see somebody take something that you have taught them and implement it to transform their circumstances is hard to beat.

At Sheffield SIFE you'll have the chance to develop and adapt your project to make the biggest difference in peoples lives. Whatever project your involved in, you know you'll be making a difference in the lives of people around you.

I know everyone is probably saying they will help you develop skill but with us you really will. When you join Sheffield SIFE you’ll be working for a real company which means you’ll gain real world experience as you conduct your project.

As your developing these skills through your own experiences it won't be boring and you'll have all the help you need. You'll learn presentation skills as you present your projects, team work and leadership skills as you work together and in your role, finance skills as you budget for your project, business planning skills as you develop a plan for your project and much more as you work on your project.

If your new to University then joining any society (not just ours) is a great way to make new friends. A society lets you meet people with similar interests and get to know them better. Our society (as you may have realized - as we say it quite a lot on this website) has 117 members so their will be plenty of opportunity to meet people and make new friends.

Throughout the year we run a number of socials and events for all of our members to get to know each other better. These are always loads of fun, especially when one of our sponsors puts money behind a bar! Plus, once your in your team you’ll be working closely together to make sure your project is more amazing than everyone else’s and (hopefully) in the process becoming good friends (well thats the idea anyway).

When you join Sheffield SIFE there will be plenty of opportunity to travel around the world as we conduct our international projects. This is an amazing and life changing experience, which you will not forget quickly.

Next year we’ll be going to at least three international countries, Ghana, India and Nigeria (although we may be doing more depending on funding). Plus, when you do it through Sheffield SIFE we pay for most of the costs involved. So it's pretty much free!

There are also opportunties to travel across the world for our SIFE competitions. If we win at the next SIFE UK National compeitition then we will be jetting off to California!!

If you join one of our commercial teams there will be plenty of opportunity to make money for yourself. In our Enterprise Challenge our teams runs small events and money making businesses.

There is also opportunities for all of our members, in any project, to make money. Especially if you are involved in any fundraising for your project. Plus, throughout the year we will be giving away prizes and awards for various good things.

Competitions are our opportunity to showcase all of the amazing things our members have been doing throughout the year. Not only do you get to gain recognition for your achievements but this is also a great opportunity to network with students from other universities and top executives from across the UK (such as head of recruitment for HSBC, KPMG, AIG, PwC and many more).

Plus, if we win the SIFE National competition this year we will be travelling to California to represent the UK in the SIFE World Cup.
